The Naudet family has been making wine since the 17th century, but Domaine Moreau-Naudet itself was established in 1950, upon the marriage of Mademoiselle Marie Naudet and Monsieur René Moreau. The domaine has passed from father to son, and when he took over from his father Roger in 1991, Stéphane Moreau gained wide-spread recognition for his wines, and firmly established himself as one of the top producers in Chablis, until his untimely death in 2016.
Stéphane’s wife Virginie and his assistant have carried on, remaining true to Stephane’s style and philosophies. They continue to eschew weed killers or any treatment against rot, and only used small amounts of organic fertilizers. Harvest is by hand and slightly later than their neighbors to ensure perfect ripeness and to reduce yields. They continue to achieve additional complexity and depth by holding the wine on the lees for much longer than their peers, with even the villages wine spending 18 months on the lees.
