Il Palazzone is a high altitude, 3 hectare property that produces a small amount (about 1,000 cases annually) of Brunello di Montalcino, and Rosso de Montalcino, here called Rosso del Palazzone. This Rosso is made in lots which are typically a blend of two vintages of Sangiovese Grosso (Lot 19 is 90% 2016 & 10% 2017). Every year a small quantity of wine destined to be Brunello di Montalcino is left in their cellar. They blend this loose wine (the grapes of which are all qualified to be Brunello) and then age it for over a year in large Slovanian oak; current DOCG rules specify a minimum of two years for Brunello, so this wine is truly a baby Brunello.
