These wine notes are from our November wine club: The Coteaux d’Ensérune, west of Beziers in the Languedoc-Roussillon, inhabits a thin, 18 mile strip of land in the Hérault department on an array of limestone plateaus which provide suitable terrain to grow grapes for a wide array of wine styles. Close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea brings cooling breezes to the summer heat of the best sites which cool the grapes and allow for retained acidity with full phenolic ripeness.
The estate vineyards are certified organic and the 3k production of this wine is nearly equal parts (25% each) of old, bush-vine Carignan, and Grenache, and trellised plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Each is vinified separately in stainless steel tanks before blending and a year of elevage in old 300L french oak.
This wine smells like cranberries. Also like tobacco, red apples, black berries, dried herbs, clove, and black licorice. While the color is deep the wine, though possessing a fair degree of tannin, is nimble, and refreshing with super delicious spice, black fruits and a range of peppery goodness. This is your option for whatever dark meat, fatty goodness you are served. Duck, turkey, gravy, sausage stuffing, porchetta!
